Birra Moretti

Birra Moretti: a history of quality since 1859

In 1859, Luigi Moretti started his "beer and ice cream factory" in Udine. A quiet provincial town in the Friuli region between Venice and the Alps, with city walls of stone built by the original inhabitants in 1350. Inside these walls, merchants and craftsmen always worked hard. Luigi Moretti was no exception. His factory started during the Risorgimento, the period when Italy became one state.

The first bottle of Birra Moretti crossed the counter in the summer of 1860. Today, the bottles look slightly different, but the taste and quality of the beer have remained almost unchanged. Over the years, the brewery used state-of-the-art machinery. And even today, the equipment is pico bello. At the end of the 20th century, Birra Moretti ventured from a local Friuli brand to a beer with national distribution. This led to an incessant growth of new enthusiasts and fans.

Now Birra Moretti is on sale in more than 40 countries worldwide, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, Japan and, more recently the Netherlands. The brand has won several international awards. Like in 2006, when Birra Moretti was the only Italian brand to win both a gold and a silver medal at the World Beer Cup, the most important international competition in the beer world. Meanwhile, Birra Moretti is also brewed in several countries outside Italy. This is also the case in the Benelux, where they bring the Italian passion for beer to life.
